Hanbury Trophy ‘24

Monmouth traveled to Fort Monroe, VA to the Hanbury Trophy hosted by Christopher Newport University on March 23rd-24th, 2024. Winds were gusting up 25-30 mph on day 1 and were building throughout the evening till day 2. Racing was cancelled on Sunday the 24th since winds were gusting over 40 mph & team representatives/coaches agreed to cancel due to safety of their sailors. 14 teams competed in this event alongside Monmouth, including: NC State, ODU, Hampton, Kings Point, St. Mary’s, CNU, WAC, UVA, VT, Princeton, UNC at Wilmington.

OCC Spring Open ‘24

Monmouth traveled to Toms River Yacht Club, in Toms River, NJ for the Ocean County College Spring Open hosted on April 6-7th. On day 1, winds were approximately 12-18 knots, with chilly conditions. Winds cause some teams to capsize, but wind started to decrease throughout the day. The team ended the day with 7 races in both A & B division. Day 2, winds were approximately 5-8 knots throughout the day, with temps in the mid 50s. The following teams competed alongside Monmouth this weekend: Hampton U., SUNY Maritime, St. Mary’s, Princeton, KP, RIT, University of Rochester, WAC, Stony Brook, Rutgers, Drexel, Villanova, Army, Stevens, U. Pitt.

Drexel Open

Monmouth sailing traveled to Essington, PA; to The Corinthian Yacht Club for the Drexel Open on May 4th-5th. Monmouth along with 5 other club teams competed on the Delaware river with great wind, but rainy weather and chilly temperatures. Monmouth gave our crews the chance to skipper their first regatta and obtain some practice for next season, since some sailors will be stepping up into new positions. Racing was completed in 1 day due to the small volume of teams and great wind conditions. The teams who participated alongside Monmouth were: Drexel, UMBC, University of Delaware, Rutgers, and CUA.
